Singleton Day Solicitors have prepared  short video below on child contact, which is a difficult and emotional area.

The video looks at frequently asked questions on child contact matters when there is a divorce or relationship breakdown.

Child contact is a complicated area and can be exceptionally difficult, if the parties are unmarried and that the father is not on the birth certificate.

The questions in the video are various and includes how will the court make a decision regarding the child.

Stamp duty set to increase in April 2016

Stamp Duty set to rocket:

Buy-to-let investors and holiday/second home owners will pay thousands of pounds extra in tax when they buy a property following the announcement of special “landlord” stamp duty tax rates applying from April 2016.

Stamp duty rates will be three percentage points higher for buy-to-letters than those buying a property to live in from April next year.

Nora Schofield of Singleton Day Solicitors has said that if you have plans to buy a second home or a buy to let property  you really to think about doing it before the increase in the Stamp Duty tax takes affect in April 2016.

Singleton Day Solicitors offers fixed fees for conveyancing. Should you need any help buying or selling property please speak to Nora Schofield today on 01942 554 013, email enquiries@singletonday.co.uk or visit www.singletonday.co.uk.

Separating parents receive potential new sanctions in Court shake up

There will be consultation by the Government about how the law should now be changed with the preferred option for the Courts “to work on the presumption that a child’s welfare is likely to be furthered through safe involvement with both parents”.

The move comes as evidence has come to light that one in five children lose touch with a parent upon separation and within 3 years never sees the parent that has left the family home.

The Government is also considering giving the Court’s new powers to withhold passports or driving licences and order a curfew for an offending parent.

As Solicitors at Singleton Day, we appreciate that there are many issues to resolve when separating. Each case has a different set of circumstances. Here at Singleton Day, we offer affordable fixed fee advice to suit your needs. Call us on 01942 554013 to book your free 30 minute appointment or visit our website www.singletonday.co.uk
